find_contact_lensesThe first step to getting contact lenses is to go to your eye doctor. He will examine your eyes and advise you on whether you can wear contact lenses and if so which kind – soft, semi-rigid, disposable, extended wear or even coloured if you so wish.

The type of lens you wear will depend on the lifestyle you lead. The doctor will prescribe the lens best suited to you. He will then start you off with a trial pack of lenses and see how you adjust to them. Soft lenses are the most commonly worn and prescribed contacts. They are made from a soft plastic material that moulds itself to the shape of the cornea. Depending on the type you get, you can wear them, throw them away then replace them on a monthly, weekly or even daily basis. Depend upon your special need doctor will prescribe you specialized contact lenses.

It is imperative to take care of your eyes through regular check-ups and also your lens by keeping them clean.  This means frequent eye exams to maintain your eye-health, and plenty of lens care including cleaning, rinsing, disinfecting, and storing the lenses to keep them clean, comfortable and free from bacteria. There many outlets where you can purchase your contact lenses- Your eye doctor of course is the best person to advise and give you the contact lens. There are also local and regional optical chains selling a particular brand of lenses with their own optometrists from whom you can purchase them. Some big departmental stores like Target or Sears will have their own optical departments that offer the same service. Lastly, with the advent of the Internet, you can even buy lenses online!
