How to wear and care for your lenses
Caring for your lenses
- The first and most important step is to properly clean and disinfect the lens when wearing and removing them to kill germs and prevent infections
- When you insert the lenses in your eye, ensure that you thoroughly rinse the case with warm water and allow it to dry.
- Never put your lens in your mouth and then into your eye
Never use homemade cleaning solutions to clean they eye. Stick to the solution prescribed by your doctor.
- If you are wearing disposable lenses, use them for the period required and then throw them away. Do not attempt to reuse them by sterilizing them.
- Never mix different brands of eye cleaning solutions
Eye drops too can interfere with contact lenses and cleaning solutions. Always check with your doctor before starting any eye drops or medication.
Wearing your lenses
- Lenses should only be worn after a requisite eye check up and doctor's prescription.
- Always ensure that your hands are washed and clean before removing from or inserting your lens into the eye.
- Never share your lenses with anyone else. This is most likely to transfer infections form one person to another
Try not to take out your lenses repeatedly throughout the day.
- There are many types of contact lenses. Even non-prescriptions lenses such as theatrical and coloured lenses should be worn only after recommended by a doctor.
- If you are wearing disposable lenses, dispose them after the prescribed period. Do not over-extend their wear.
